Call for Volunteers – 2015

Hi Mixers!
Susan and I are SO excited about this year’s conference! We have so many educational and FUN things in store for you again this year. Now that the conference is getting close, we are looking for A FEW GOOD VOLUNTEERS to help out during/after the conference. If you are selected as a volunteer, in return for your help we would cover your conference ticket (retail value $199). NOTE: Travel, hotel accommodations and incidentals are NOT included and are up to you to cover.

We are looking for volunteers for the following categories:

  • Technical : Are you  handy with microphones and AV equipment? Then this is the place for you.
  • Hospitality : Are you a social butterfly? Like mixing and mingling with people? We are looking for volunteers to help with: registration, party hosts, speaker coordinator, and the like. If this sounds like fun then this is the place for you.
  • General : General behind the scenes help. IE: stuffing swag bags, delivering items from one room to another, breaking down boxes, set up, clean up, etc. This is where we will need the bulk of help.

NOTE: We welcome all applications but please ONLY apply IF you are able to attend the conference October 2-4 and are able to cover your travel and hotel accommodations.

We’ve set the date for OCTOBER 2-4  2015 at the POSH Woodlands Resort & Conference Center in The Woodlands TEXAS. We’re knee deep into the planning stages for Mixed. We have SO many surprises for you this year. It’s going to the best one YET!

Now we’re looking to fill the remaining sessions.

Photography & Styling Workshop with Helene Dujardin & Tami Hardeman

A 3-hour intimate and intense styling workshop with professional photographer (and author of Plate to Pixel) Helene Dujardin and professional food stylist Tami Hardeman. Taking place at 10 am Friday morning (11/7/14) before MIXED officially starts, we’ll briefly chat about our approach to food photography and styling… then dive right in to some hands-on workshopping.

We’ll be working through a “challenging” subject – think cocktails, tacos or pasta – all the way from reading the recipe to how light, angle and your choice of props change the look and feel of your shot. Helene and Tami will be on-hand to help you with your process. You’ll also have access to their surfaces, props and linens for your images.

You’ll need to bring your camera – whatever you normally shoot food with is best. This is not a photography/”how to work your camera” session – this will be strictly hands-on so basic knowledge of your camera & settings is essential. If you have a tripod, bringing it with you will be helpful as you’ll be playing photographer and food stylist at the same time.

You *must* be an attendee of MIXED to be a part of the workshop. There will only be 8 spots available for this workshop – once they’re gone, they’re gone!

TERMS AND CONDITIONS: This purchase is non-refundable but is transferable – please register only if you know you can attend on Friday morning before the conference officially starts. If you’re unable to attend the workshop for any reason, your spot may be sold to another attendee. Please contact us directly in that instance and we’ll adjust the class list accordingly.

Dixie Crystals Pre-Conference Baking Contest 2014

Get in the MIX! Between NOW and SEPTEMBER 30, anyone who creates an ORIGINAL cookie, bar or brownie recipe using Dixie Crystals or Imperial Sugar (any variety: granulated, brown, turbinado, powdered, etc.) and posts it to their blog is in for an amazing opportunity!

That’s right…your recipe could earn you a FREE MIXED TICKET, (retail value $329) where you will be up against two other amazing finalists in the Sugar Showdown!

Once you have been selected as one of the three finalists, you will arrive at Mixed to face off in a baking competition judged by the attendees.  If you win? A $500 Grand Prize and Bragging Rights are yours for an entire lifetime!

RULES/REGULATIONS:

  •  All recipes must include at least 1 teaspoon of Dixie Crystals or Imperial Sugar. Brown, white, powdered, etc are all included.
  • All recipes must be complete in 30 minutes.
  • You MUST include 2 of the ingredients from this list:
    dark chocolate
    mint chocolate chips
    pumpkin puree
    pecans
    cranberries
    – apples
  • Recipe must be posted by September 30 2014 to be considered.

·         The recipe must be an original creation. Recipes may not have been previously published or otherwise owned, sold or conveyed to a third party and may not have won previous awards.

  • All recipes or posts must include a link to Dixie Crystals or Imperial Sugar, and all links must be tweeted including the @MixedCon handle to be included in the competition. 
  • THREE finalists will be chosen to attend Mixed Conference to participate in the Sugar Showdown and receive a  free Mixed ticket. 

  • *** NO travel is included, participants are responsible for their own lodging and transportation. 

  • ONE grand prize of $500 awarded by Dixie Crystals based on judging during conference. 

  • Finalist will be notified by October 10, 2014.

It’s FRIDAY – SATURDAY NOVEMBER 22-23, 2013 at the Mountain Lake Lodge Resort in Virginia (did we also tell you they’re in the middle of a complete renovation!) Conference tickets will go on sale in the next little bit so SAVE THE DATE. In the meantime we’re putting out a call for speakers!
